A Christmas List for Software Developers🎁

Happy Christmas!

We’re almost there, but if you have a developer in your life you’re looking for a last minute developer gift for this list might just help you out!

Let’s dive in and get your Christmas list sorted!

Headphones

If the developer you are buying a gift for is truly hardcore they don’t need wireless headphones, they need wired ones. The wired part is important, but so is blocking out the entire world so get a pair that have noise cancelling.

You’ll enable your giftee to block out the rest of the world while they need to focus on chasing down bugs. If you’ve experienced their complaints when they’ve been interrupted by someone at work you’ll be pleased to know that can be halted with this simple purchase.

The look we are going for is the following, which is the ideal look for any developer.

A New Laptop

The developer in your life might already have a blazing-fast machine and are super-happy with it. But you can always get a better machine in your life, and if you can’t you can buy a second machine.

One for work, one for side projects? Yes please!

The look we are going for is the ultimate setup, as shown here:

A Chair

Convert your developer giftee into a 10x developer through the purchase of a simple chair. Remember that the physical body is important, and a wise purchase of a chair will protect this most valuable resource. Remember that usually the coolest developers have a gaming chair, as the Corsair branding is worth the increase in price.

Here is the ideal developer chair setup:

A Microphone

Let the developer in your life free, by buying a microphone. They can then develop their own #sidehustle with a podcast series about “code and coffee”.

The Worst Gift

Here is one gift that you should not buy. Under any circumstances.

Subscriptions. They creep up on you and force you to spend money on things you no longer use. They cost too much and instead of representing a gift they are a contact to keep paying for services into the future.

Conclusion

I’m going to come clean. I wrote this whole article to discourage you from buying that special developer a mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting.

Was my article successful? I’m guessing it’s a moot point since all developers have these toys already.
