Elon Musk’s Hardcore Programming is Proven to Be a Folly

The Secret Developer has long had a one-way argument with Elon Musk. Given the news that Mutual fund company (no, not me either) Fidelity marked down its investment by nearly 72% has The Secret Developer calling it.

Musk is an idiot. Making his employees work ‘hardcore’ hours doesn’t create an efficient and productive workforce. It’s destroyed the company.

Let me explain this to you.”

Ch-ch-changes

The Secret Developer claims the recent shockwave sent through the investment world by Fidelity’s drastic markdown of X is more than just a financial fiasco.

“The changes in X (née Twitter) this last year have been stark. Leadership changes haven’t made the ride easier as continuity at the social network has become a thing of the past. Many prominent advertisers pulled out after Musk called an antisemitic conspiracy ‘the actual truth’.

However, I think Musk’s chickens are coming home to roost. It’s the crumbling facade of an approach that overworks and undervalues its most crucial asset: the developers. Sacking a load of developers because they’re not ‘hardcore’ and then realizing you’ve not got the knowledge to work on your platform? That’s incompetence.”

The failed strategy

Musk looked for rapid growth and innovation. The Secret Developer feels that we have seen neither.

“Working artificial deadlines at the expense of reasonable working hours and employee well-being is a short-term plan that was never going to reap dividends. It’s not a solution, it’s a symptom of a deeper problem.

In the relentless pursuit of the next big thing, companies have laid off essential staff and overburdened those who remain, leading to burnout, diminishing returns, and, ultimately, a devaluation of both human capital and the product itself.

It’s time devs started saying no to this kind of behavior. We need to stand up for ourselves and create better software just not at our own expense.”

Conclusion

“Instead of listening to Alex Jones and Andrew Tate on X, do some software development work. Program. Just don’t get sick pushing yourself too hard to do so in a safe way.

Ok?”
