iPhone 15 is Apple’s Way of Saying “We Get It Now”

The iPhone 15

Let’s take a look at the iPhone 15 Pro, the new flagship phone just announced by Apple.

  • New Chip and faster speeds

  • Improved camera

  • Button (seriously)

With the big, massive new exciting feature:

  • The USB-C port

“Sounds great! Take my money!”

If you’ve already got the flagship iOS iPhone, are you really going to upgrade for these anemic changes?

New iPhone 15 Features

We all thought Apple might start charging a decent price for a 60hz (lolz) phone. Then they hit us with the usual:

Apple thinks the camera is the star of the show but I start to think ‘is that it’ as soon as we get to the glossy video of a photography studio.

“Some of us have nothing to take pictures of except our code. A colonoscopy would be more useful than a periscope.”

That one big thing. The USB-C port

Apple might just be saying “We finally get it”. Apple fans have needed a nest of wires to make sure that their Apple devices can remain charged.

Since Apple moved the entire iPad lineup to USB, the reliance on the out-of-date lightning cables has looked like nothing more than a money grab from Apple, which takes a license fee from every cable sold.

The Lack Of Innovation Disturbs Me

Apple used to be a leader in the tech space and produce compelling products for its users. This year’s iPhone and watch event is nothing short of a joke as both devices got almost no features over a chip spec bump.

“The ‘air tap’ of the new Watch is software locked to the new version. Thanks for supporting your existing customers Tim Apple.”

The speed of both devices was already sufficient prompting questions of ‘why so boring again’ from the Apple faithful.

The USB-C is presented as an innovation by Apple rather than a kowtow to the EU.

“Surprising, that.”

Implications — A sign of the end of Apple?

I think we are moving towards a time when Apple just stops innovating. We might already be there other than the Vision Pro (did that even release yet).

It feels like we are reverting to the Apple of the 90s when they thought repackaging a Mac into a console (the Pipin) was a great product.

“The dismal sales tell us it wasn’t a good product at all.”

Apple should demand more of themselves than yearly spec increases. Frankly, I’d prefer a revolutionary product every two years than a repackaged phone with unexciting specs. The fact that customers are willing to put up with these subpar products is actually accelerating Apple’s decline.

“It will be sad when they go, but it feels like the heart of Apple has already gone.”

Conclusion

Apple has finally bowed to pressure and has added a USB-C connector to the iPhone lineup.

It’s just a shame the other innovations were missing really. Perhaps this will all work out when they reveal the Apple car or something?
