Meta Announces AI Chatbots with ‘Personality’. What Could Go Wrong?

The Secret Developer has been astonished at the slow uptake of AI in their current company. Yesterday’s Meta Connect was filled with the latest and most significant advances. Has the company formally known as Facebook finally brought AI and chatbots into the mainstream?

“I use AI daily in my work, even as a replacement for search engines like Google. For instance, it once helped me appeal a speeding ticket.

Why wouldn’t you use a tool like that? From my perspective, not using a tool like that seems insane.”

Meta AI is Full Of Personality

This all seems rather old news since Meta’s LLaMA model was created to help researchers leaked on 4chan in March. The Zuck has had a great idea this year.

Meta AI can be used to settle arguments or answer questions.

Zuck thinks this is awesome because they are giving their chatbots personality. Zuck has even stated: “This isn’t going to be about answering queries, this is about entertainment”.

We can look at some of the celebs involved:

  • Tom Brady

  • Snoop Dogg

  • Kendall Jenner

  • Paris Hilton

“That’s a good combination of celebrities. Definitely, the sort of people you will trust with writing queries and questions.”

What could possibly go wrong?

When you look at the details of what has been announced the devil is in the details.

The term ‘settle arguments’ is the red flag here.

I appreciate Microsoft’s AI racist chatbot is from the distant past (2016) but remember how Twitter twisted it.

The gender effect of chatbots would be interesting but remember that giving data to Meta for free that they may or may not mishandle may be considered to be stupidity.

It seems to me that this is a misguided product from a misguided company. People support this trash because they like to support the superstar CEO myth.”

But We All Want to Converse, Tom, Kendall, and Paris

“Seriously. No.”

Conclusion

“Will we all look back in a few years about the moment where it all went wrong? Probably.

And this might well be that moment.
